WOTW Blog #001

Updated: Jun 14

When you're creating something from the ground up things always seem to move in slow motion. I feel like this should be blog post #542. Nope, it's just the first one.

Name the foundation. Get 501(c)(3) status. Do all the legal and tax stuff. Find volunteers to put together a board. Raise money to make the difference we know we can make with the right partnerships and resources. Build a website. Get social media dialed in. Market. Do as much good as we can without funding to establish a track record that says, 'this is worth donating my hard-earned money.' It's a lot, gang. A lot a lot. I don't sleep much because I/we are building something that is planned to help veterans and first responders nationwide. This endeavor is much more important than the bags under my eyes.

This past week three of us (WOTW board members) spent time with elderly veterans at The Remington in Hanford, CA. This is going to be a monthly event with WOTW personnel facilitating the meeting. Our first meeting was Wednesday June 12th. Two residents and veterans of foreign wars were in attendance. We discussed ideas for how to make this impactful for the residents. Gratitude was conveyed on both sides. Tears were shed. We made lists and set some safety and emotional parameters. The meeting lasted a little over an hour. A lot was said. There was some disappointment by the residents that more of their own hadn't shown up for the meeting. But we did it. We made it happen. Two elderly veterans walked out of that room feeling respected, appreciated, and heard.

Every step matters. Every veteran matters. WOTW exists to give veterans a voice.

It's working. Stay tuned. Any and all support is hugely appreciated. Thank you.
